A Kitten With Special Needs Found Refuge In The Most Unexpected Paws

At first glance, Canelo looked like any other kitten: he was cute, friendly, and full of energy. But his health was far from perfect, and this left him in a tricky situation. Unfortunately, the odds were very much stacked against the young cat living a trouble-free life. And yet despite all the obstacles, Canelo got some important help from a group of unexpected pals on his road to recovery.

The journey begins

This incredible journey began when our pale-ginger-colored hero was little over a month old. Canelo was taken to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, which can be found in Kanab, Utah. The refuge itself is located in an undeniably eye-catching spot with canyons peppering the landscape. It’s a perfect place for its dedicated staff to aid their furry guests.

A staggering number

Speaking of which, the sanctuary’s doors are open to a whole host of different animals. From dogs to horses, they’re all welcome. And to give you an idea of just how busy it can get, around 1,600 creatures have been known to stay on the site at any one time. So Canelo certainly wasn’t alone when he rocked up!

The mission

On a broader note, though, Best Friends Animal Society does have an important mission beyond caring for these creatures at the sanctuary. You see, the organization hopes to put an end to the euthanizing of animals staying at shelters across the country by 2025. It’s a significant aim, but the support is definitely there on Best Friends’ social media platforms.

Huge social media support

Yep, on Facebook alone, the Best Friends page has roughly 1.5 million followers, while its Instagram account boasts nearly 580,000 fans: notable numbers! So all things considered, Canelo couldn’t really have asked to be in a better place. The kitten was going to get the care he needed without a looming threat hanging over him.
